The One where The NY Knicks RULE ALL!

I don’t have much to say for today, but CONGRATULATIONS to THE NY KNICKS!!

Being in the city during this time has been both very exciting and overwhelming. Not only were the NBA finals going on but FIFA has also entered the city vibes. Soon it will be Fleet Week and Merica’s 250th Birthday. Not to mention just the overall joy of summer in the city with regular tourists.

I am not a Knicks fan (you can take the girl out of the Midwest but you can’t take the Midwest out of the girl! 😂) but I do respect what they have accomplished. To come back in game 4 from a 29 point deficit to win, come on now! And then to do that again (come back from a deficit) in game 5. Yeah it was pretty exciting to witness.

I only watched the game 5 and that was only because I was pretty sure they were going to win the game. I decided to get youtube tv free trial to be able to watch the game, since the lines to go to any of the watch parties were too long and Lisa doesn’t do lines (if she can help it). Also the fun watch parties, such as in Central Park were all ticketed events (free) to help with crowd control. So if you didn’t snag your ticket right away, you were out of luck.

But from the comfort of my upper floor apartment, I was able to enjoy the watching the Knicks win. What was funny though was that I knew we had won before it aired. My connection had about a 30 to 45 second delay and I could hear the cheers ringing throughout the city. I even opened my window and could see people literally sprinting down the street making their way to MSG (where I’m only a few avenues away from) to celebrate with other fellow Knick fans.

Today marked yet another victory lap for The NY Knicks, with their “ticker tape parade”. A quick Google search informed me that a “ticker tape parade” is “an energetic, celebratory procession through an urban setting, famous for raining shredded paper and confetti down on the parade route from surrounding office buildings”. It comes from the history of brokers throwing out ticker tape papers out of their windows during parades that went by. The first one took place on October 29, 1886 for the dedication of the Statue of Liberty.

As an outsider (yes, just because I happen to live in NYC during their historic win, I’m not going to pretend that I’m a fan. I refuse to be a follower!) the energy and excitment was next level today. The city was planning for at least a MILLION people to attend the parade. I literally cannot comprehend what that even means coming from a town of 500 and thinking our Saddle Horse Holiday Parade was off the chains. Realistically that was mostly because of the tootsie fruities everyone threw out to us kids-they were the best-especially the blue raspberry! To ensure these fans got the best seats on the route they camped out their location starting last night at about 10pm if not earlier. The views sections were full at 7:30am. The parade didn’t start until 10am.

Part of me did wonder if I was going to have any FOMO from missing the thrill of the parade and the energy of being part of something historic, but in the end, I decided it was best that I followed my gut to not attend.

I hope those who attended had the times of their lives and will talk about today for years to come.

For the players, the staff, and Joey Tribbiani, KNICKS RULE ALL!
