Just a little update…
I thought I would provide a little bit of an update on my life in NYC.
I’ve been there for several months now and we are in full swing of summer! The last two weeks have been great with the NBA Finals and the Knicks winning the championship. To FIFA just across the river in Jersey but many events and watch parties are happening all over the city. And in a few short weeks, it will be Fleet Week and Merica’s 250th Birthday.
The city is filled with great excitement, enthusiasm, and euphoria. Seriously, if you can’t find something to do in the city right now then you are actively being bored.
Today I ended up going downtown to head to one event only to find that there was another event going on. With the new show Elle coming out on Amazon Prime, they had an “activation” going on with various interactive events to do and free samples to enjoy. It was super cute and what a delightful detour I was able to take this afternoon.
After that, I went to Rockefeller Park (part of Battery Park) to the Swedish Consulate’s celebration of Midsummer. It was so fun! It did end up being a lot of standing in lines, but it provided me with the opportunity to speak with some of the locals which I enjoyed. At the festival they had fiddlers from the Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota come out to play for a couple of hours-which delighted me! Then at some point they brought in the Maypole, covered in sunflowers. It was so pretty. There were several different booths, from a honey booth, to a free tote bag from the artist who was commissioned to do the work, to all sorts of Swedish candy spots. The only thing that was a bummer was the lack of Swedish Meatballs. Can you really call it a Swedish festival without them? I guess I’ll have to go to Ikea to get those.
The best part though was the weather. It was seriously such a beautiful day to spend it outside, people watching, and just hanging out. It really felt like a perfect summer Saturday.
Tomorrow, if I can get the editing finished in time, I hope to make a video of the day for your review. Until then, Vi ses!
P.S. Please don’t tell my Norwegian ancestors that I cheated on them by going to a Swedish festival. Thanks!
